Overview
The tour starts at the entry gates of Montmartre, at the Place St Pierre. As we walk up towards the Basilique Sacré Coeur, Ed and Alice will explore the Roman origins of this neighbourhood, and how it has evolved over time.
Those of you that make it to the summit of Montmartre will be rewarded with the best view in all of Paris. We'll stop to catch our breath and point out some iconic Parisian landmarks.
Next, we'll turn around for a closer look at the Basilique Sacré Coeur. We'll learn about the connection between this marvellous church and Montmartre's rebellious past.
Just around the corner sits St Pierre, Paris's oldest church. Whilst it sits in the shadows of the basilica and is often overlooked, St Pierre is arguably the most important church in France. Together, we'll discover why.
We'll meander down the nostalgic, winding, cobbled roads of Montmartre village and immerse ourselves in its artistic past. This is where we'll leave the tourist path and venture into a quieter, lesser known part of Montmartre.
Montmartre also has a darker side, and we'll explore it together as we navigate the narrow alleys of its underbelly. We'll learn more about the seedier side of Montmartre, visit Paris' oldest cabaret and hear about the gangs that used to operate here.
Together, we'll stumble upon Paris' oldest vineyard and learn about the annual "Fete des Vendanges", where you'll be able to taste the wine produced here. You'll be as surprised as we were to discover this tranquil oasis in the middle of such a bustling & vibrant city.
No trip to Montmartre is complete without a visit to Place Dalida. We'll learn all about the tragic life of Dalida, the Montmartre resident who sold over 300 million albums! This is also where we get the best photo of Montmartre, so get you cameras ready..
Speaking of photos, we'll also stop at Paris' most Instagrammed spot, La Maison Rose. It's a gorgeous pink house that has inspired so many artists and photographers including Maurice Utrillo.
Finally, as the podcast tour comes to an end, you'll walk through Dali's life story at the Dali Museum, and absorb the artistic side of Montmartre.
The Vidi Guides experience is enriched with on-screen photos and videos. We also point out where to take the perfect Instagram photos during the tour, and include recommendations for food, drinks and local attractions.
